In May 2018, the Chinese manufacturer Oppo launched the Realme sub-brand, intended for developing countries, primarily the Indian market.
Realme uses Oppo's manufacturing facilities in India and focuses on a base price range from $ 145 to $ 290.
The Oppo approach is similar to Xiaomi with Redmi - these are entry-level and mid-range smartphones aimed, as the company says, “towards a young audience with an emphasis on style and technology.”
Realme focuses on the essential characteristics of the device for its audience - performance, uptime and low cost.
In July 2018, less than three months after launch, Realme became a separate company under the parent BBK. She was led by Oppo Sky Lee's former vice president, who was responsible for launching products on international markets.
In the first seven months of its existence, Realme sold 4 million devices and launched in seven Asian countries, by the end of 2018 it took fourth place in the Indian market with a share of 8%, and in 2019 it launched in China, the UK and Russia.
