TCL History

Some TCL Phone & Smart Watch User Manuals PDF are above the page.

The name of this brand stands for “creative life”, in Europe its phones are known under the name Alcatel, and many are familiar with its home appliances - TVs, air conditioners. All this is the hero of our today's article, the Chinese brand TCL. This is a huge corporation, founded in 1981 and consisting of subsidiary companies whose areas of interest are multimedia, communications and household appliances.

We are also interested in the TCL division, which has been engaged in the development and sale of smartphones, which has been going on since 1985. It was then that TCL Communication Equipment Co. was created. Ltd. Initially, the company was engaged in the release of fixed-line telephones. In 1999, TCL Communication was represented on its base, focused on the production of mobile phones and the provision of Internet services.

And in 2002 she won the first place in sales of "cellular" in the domestic market. In 2004, TCL Communication and the French mobile phone company, Alcatel, formed the joint venture TCL & Alcatel Mobile Phones Limited (TAMP). 55% of the shares in this company were owned by TCL, and 45% by Alcatel. All French mobile phone factories were relocated to China. And in 2005, TCL bought out the remaining shares of the joint venture from Alcatel. In the same year, the company increased its sales to 1 million units per month.

In 2007, TCL, in collaboration with RIM, introduced the first Blackberry mobile phone in the Chinese market. This model was called the Alcatel BlackBerry 8700. And a little later it became the exclusive smartphone manufacturer for the international telecom operator Vodafone.

From year to year, the company increased its production and sales turnover, expanding production facilities and official offices throughout the world. As a result, in 2010, TCL broke into the global TOP10 smartphone sales, ranking 7th in the second quarter. In 2013, the company put into operation at that time the largest manufacturing center in the world, capable of producing 120 million units annually.

In the same year, the first model was presented, probably the most successful TCL line, Idol X. The smartphone was sold in the amount of 20 thousand copies in a jiffy. By the way, in the Asian market it was sold under the name of TCL, in the rest of the world as Alcatel. And this principle remains to this day. A year later, at the CES international exhibition in Las Vegas, an updated IDOL X + model was introduced, which became the first smartphone on MediaTek’s truly 8-core SoC from MTTTROX - MT6592 (maximum core frequency 2 GHz). 2015 has become very busy for TCL and its fans. A new line of smartphones GO PLAY, smart watches GO WATCH, a tablet with a diagonal of 17.3 inches Xess and a variation of the legendary model IDOL 3 were presented.

Today, TCL Communication products are sold in 170 countries of the world, occupying the 7th place in the global sales of smartphones with a market share of 4 percent. The company has built strong partnerships with global Vodafone and Orange operators, as well as retail giants - Walmart, BestBuy and others. It has one of the largest production facilities in the world, 15,000 employees, 9 global research centers located in Silicon Valley, Paris, Shanghai, Beijing, Ningbo, Huizhou, Shenzhen, Chengdu and Hong Kong.
